S&W CS on older bought used guns?

Hello, quick question, I was looking at some older S&W guns like a model 19. What if I buy a S&W M19 and it turns out theres some problems with it. Does CS honor it and will fix what ever is wrong with it. Like if I shoot a few 100 rounds then my firing pin breaks.

Theres something about the S&W M19...

In my experience, yes, they will. But if you tell them it was bought used (I'm the honest type), they don't offer the shipping label.

I'm not complaining about that.

Not sure if that's standard, though, or if that was the CS guy I spoke with on that occasion.

I've had other friends send back used S&W, who thought they'd have to pay for repairs, but S&W did the repair work for free.

Also, may be worth pointing out that the often-mentioned "Lifetime Warranty" isn't & what S&W will do on older guns depends on whether or not they still have parts to service them with.

I don't believe they have any barrels left for 19s & they've been out of 27 & 28 barrels for quite some time.

Also consider that they usually refuse to work on guns that are older than 50 yrs old. The earliest model 19s and combat magnums would be over 50 yrs old now.
They did however work on my 1953 K-22. I guess I got lucky somehow.

S&W may look at specific repairs on a case by case basis for older guns. But, I wouldn't count on getting any work done for free, especially if you're not the original owner. Smith has good customer service, and they often give folks a break in the interest of maintaining "good will", but they're also in the business of making a profit.

Back in the mid '90's, I picked up a 25-5 from an estate. It was in decent shape, but had holster wear, cylinder wear and a loose lockup. I sent it back with just the admonition to "fix it and make it look nice." They replaced the cylinder, hand, bolt, timed the gun and refinished it. About $235 for repairs and shipping. But, I didn't quibble, it was what I asked for, and the gun looked and operated like new.

Over a period of the last 30 years or so, I have had occasion to send several guns, purchased used, back to S&W for this or that. They have always been very fair with me and "gone above and beyond" in most cases in IMHO. A couple of years ago, I sent in my used Model 686 no dash for the hammer nose/hammer nose bushing "M"odification. S&W paid shipping both ways and I took the opportunity to have it tuned up. The person working on my gun at S&W called me, we discussed it and he charged me one hour's labor for the additional work. The hand was replaced, cylinder end play removed, etc. I appreciated the call from the guy actually working on my gun and thought the charge was very fair. Although it has happened more than once for me, I would never EXPECT them to repair a used gun for free... ymmv
