S&W Chief's Special 45 Semi-automatic pistol

Does anyone have any experience with one of these pistols? I haven't even read anything about one of them. It looks like a nice small package for concealed carry, firing the proven 45 ACP. Any info appreciated.

Second-hand, but trustworthy experience with just one. A friend, retired gunshop owner and rabid shooter, got one of the earlier ones from his son, who now runs the shop. After 70-80 rounds the first day out, he was ready to trade it for fishing weights - 10" groups at 25 yds, and several stovepipes. He fired his remaining ammo, and one of the other guys asked to fire it. After 20-30 rounds, something (a machined chip, high spot, tight spot - who knows??) settled in or fell out, and the gun choked down to 3" groups, and never failed to cycle thereafter. His collection runs well over 300 guns, and he has experience with many more, and said he had never had a gun change so radically on it's first run. With a nearly bottomless stock of choices, he now considers it his favorite compact.

Hi,
I have a CS9 which I bought used a few months ago. I have about 300 rounds through it so far without any problems. It is not the most accurate pistol but it is tiny. I love the size. Due to my experiences I would like to find one in .45 in the future, seems like it would be a great pistol.

My CS45 groups fine and is fun to shoot, but I started
having problems with the slide not going fully into
battery. I'm hoping it might just need some more break
in time (I've got about 250 rounds of ball thru it), but
i kind of got on a SA revolver kick and it's been relegated
to the back of the safe for now. Neat gun, though.

I'm not sure how these compare to a 4516-1, but I did own one of those & it was an excellent pistol. The 4516 had a 3.5" barrel (I believe) & was all stainless steel - frame, slide & barrel. My gun ate up anything I chose to load the mag with, & it was as accurate as it needed to be for the intended use of a compact .45ACP. I don't usually bench my guns for accuracy; for my combat guns I hang a police silhouette, backup 7; 10; & 15 yards, shoot & check the results. I was never disappointed with that gun.

I only sold it to fund another purchase; that for a lightweight 1911 that I knew I would carry more. If my experiance is typical with a S&W compact .45, the gun is a good defensive weapon although IMHO, a little heavy.

S&W CS45

I purchased one some time ago and I'm not overly impressed with it  I'm only keeping it around as a collectors piece, If something came along that I really wanted and needed to trade something... It would be History ;)

I have the CS40 which has become a "house gun" due
to its width, especially at the grip. Kind've wide in the hips
for a single stack magazine. I have had good luck with it
and it shoots as true as my other guns.

But were I to go into .45, I'd probably go for a Kimber or
a ParaOrdinance.

Best regards.
