S&W ( Backpacker& Mountain gun )

Thinking of one of these for carry back up. Backpacker has 2 in barrel Mountain gun has 4 inch barrel. I live in Alaska, and dont want to carry something as heavy as a 454. Thoughts or exsperiances would be appricated. Thanks
 
just my $.02 but I have a MT gun in .44 and love it. I've heard they have horrible recoil but went with the gut instinct and bought 1 anyway. First time I went shooting I'd run through about 150 240grn rounds and had no problems. Mine is very accurate and I like the weight to power ratio. Good luck whichever you choose.

I second Bill's recommendation on the MG. Recoil is not as bad as many purport it to be. I believe the 629MG is only a few (3-4) ounces lighter than a standard 4" 629. I liked my 629MG so much, I acquired the 41Mag and 45LC versions. Still looking for the elusive 686+MG, though.
 
I stand with the others. Loved my Mountain Gun (44 mag)from day one. I load a 240 gr SWC to about 1150 fps and don't have any difficulty with recoil.
