S$W and your local gun store

I visited my local gun store, just browsing. When the sales guy (also manager there) asked what I wanted, we chatted a while. Then I said, commenting on the Benedict and Arnold revolver in the case, "You aren't signing THAT AGREEMENT, are you"? He assured me they wouldn't. Is this something we should all do locally?

So far, I've asked three Atlanta area gun stores about their plans. All three said that they were going to sell the S&W guns that they had in stock, but not order any more to replace what they sold.

I don't see anything wrong with buying any pre-Clintom agreement S&W products, but I will never buy any of their post Clinton agreement designs,

The three gun stores I visit most -- Carolina Sporting Arms and Hyatt's Guns in Charlotte, NC, and Rob and Don's Sportsman in Denver, NC -- all say that their days of selling new S&Ws are over. They say they will accept trades of used S&W guns but will not order any new ones. At Rob and Don's, they say they will no longer order guns from distributors who handle S&W products.

Death to S&W.

One of my favorite gun shops/ranges in Orlando has decided to stick with Slick&Wesson, so this weekend's visit was my last. Glad to hear so many shops are in on the boycott. Mark / FL

The owner of my local emporium will not sign the agreement

He started to stock Taurus to take their place.

Mark K. - Don't stop going to your local S&W store. Do what I do, drop by and tell them what you've purchased elsewhere. JBT

The gun shop in my areas was way ahead of me. The dealer there (an S&W stocking dealer) had already decided not to sign on to S&W's pact with the devil. He said he would not allow S&W to dictate how he runs his own business, which he already conducts 100% legally and ethically. He also said that the agreement would be an insult to his customers, most of whom he has known for many years, and all of whom deserve the respect accorded to honorable, law-abiding citizens until they prove otherwise--not the assumption of guilt that the agreement presumes and imposes.

In the San Jose area, I have been to 2 of the 3 gun stores I know in the area. The one in campbell, the owner of the place no longer recommends S&W. i didn't ask if they would be ordering more

The one in Mt.View tried told me they could order an s&w for me from campfor (sp?) at which point i told the owner that I wasn't relaly looking at S&w he said said something that basically amounted to "i make more money off the s&w than I will off the ruger" i said i'll think about it. walked around the store just to see what I was missing out on (not much) and what the new store was lookig like. and left if you want to know the name of the stores email me.

I detest what Smith and Wesson did/are doing. I blame S&W though, and not the local dealer. My local dealer will go under if he doesn't move the inventory of pre-agreement stock he has.

It's a real quandry I gotta tell you. I want no part of a new Smith and Wesson, but I also want to see a gun dealer survive. The absolute last thing I want to see is an empty store where a local dealer AND RANGE used to be. Sarah and company win big time on this one folks. Not only do they get another legal dealer out of business, they remove a safe place to shoot, and get ahold of the 4473's in one motion. Remember the method they use? Pure emotionalism works every time. In the heat of anger, a lot of damage is being done, with little or no restraint from our side. $hit, we even go one better than them. We drive our own out of business. We gotta figure a way to help the dealers, and send a message to S&W.

S&W does have some good pistols - if you can deal with the frame mounted safeties.
shudder...
So if you dealer - who has decided NOT to agree to that ill deal - still has some S&W units on the shelf... It's OK to go ahead and buy it. Your faithful dealer has already spent his or her money on that gun to stock it. The longer it stays on the shelf - the more money the dealer will lose.
But if you do want that pistol - be certain that once he sells out of S&W products - they will not be ordering more.
If the Clerk doesnt know - ask for the manager... or Store Owner.
Ther idea is not to hurt the Faithful Dealers but to lay some smackdown on S&W. When Dealers stop ordering - THATS when S&W has entered the House of Pain.

From a dealers point of view--

There is no way a small shop can afford to agree with the "code of conduct cluase"

One of my distributors, who is a large S&W customer, says they will operate as usual until the agreement has been signed, which at this point,is starting to look questionable. It is worth noting that they have recently added Taurus to their line.

I agree with the posts here, and want to thank everyone for supporting their local dealers in this case.

Maybee the insanity will end this November.
