Can you tell me when a SW 686 serial number starting with AVE ####
was made? I did not see it on the listing.

No, you have to have the SCSW to find out anything about late model guns with the alphanumeric serials.

Any 686 is a new gun by my standards and its year of manufacture of no interest to me.

A series numbers started in the early 1980s, so it its likely from then.
