So, I decided to make reliability Poll based on rounds fired for the S&W Airweight revolvers. Hopefully we will get enough votes in each poll to compare them to each other.

Same type of Poll different manufacture.

Please only answer the poll if you have or had any of the S&W Airweight revolvers.
DO NOT answer the poll if you have or had a regular S&W revolver, I believe this would throw off the data.
Please only vote only once however, If you have more than one S&W Airweight revolvers please vote as many times as you have Airweight revolvers.

How many rounds have you fired with your S&W Airweight and not had a problem or had a Problem?

642. Less than 1000. Shot some buffalo bore +p. Cylinder was stiff and didn't want to open. Sent back to S&W and was fixed.

A first year manufacture 638, no lock, bought new in the late 90s. Three FTFs in the first 300 rounds, sent back to S&W and they replaced the cylinder. Now at 4K +/- wad cutters to full-on 158s with no problems.

I use a 642 as a practice gun for all my other carry Js. Has a Hillary hole (none of my others including 640, 640-1, 642, 638s, have one.) Got it brand new, which is rare for me. I shoot light loads mainly, and shoot them often.

Many thousands fired.

Keeps my skills up it does.

As long as you stick with quality American made self-defense ammo, you should not have any issues. Speer, Federal and Winchester all use quality primers and powders that should ignite every time. *Should* - nothing is 100%.

The only problems I've ever experienced with any .38/.357 revolvers is when using cheap practice ammo that wasn't made in America. I've had problems with Magtech not burning all the powder, with the bullet barely leaving the barrel. I've had problems with extremely hard primers with some brands of European made .38/.357, such as Geco/RWS (just an example). Any primer made in Hungary is most likely hard as a rock. I would never use that junk for self-defense though.

642, purchased last Feb or Mar. Hundreds of rounds through it, no problem.

If you have the money, and want a pocketable snubby .38, get one.

I've had this a couple decades and don't remember a problem.
