i'm thinking of getting a 637 airweight but i've heard of the clearcoat finish pealing off after time? can anyone offer insight to this?

how does the taurus model 85 titanium wear?

did the older detective specials in blue ever have this problem? i know they weren't made from alloy - but what made them so durable?

thanks

Mine peeled after about 6 months of pocket carry. I sent it back to S&W to be repaired and they did a great job on it. They returned it to me in less than two weeks. The took the entire clearcoat off. It looks much better without it...
No worries, S&W has the best warrantee in the business

Taurus nor Colt used a clearcoat finish. The Colt DS is durable because it is a steel frame revolver and not an aluminum alloy.

I carried my 637 close to daily (except going on base to work :)) and had no issues. I DID, however, have it start to peel a little after using the Gunscrubber aerosol (the first time I had ever used anything other than Hoppes #9 in my life) on it. It didnt really take ALL that much clearcoat off, and since it is one of my regular carry guns, bought just for carrying, not for looks, rarity, etc, I never bothered to send it in to S&W, but I have heard from MANY people that they will fix the clear coat issue free of charge, no questions asked.
