S&W Airweight m38

I've got an Airweight Bodyguard nickle plated that I bought used. I've fired a few rounds thru it, mostly Winchester whitebox 130gnFMJ. Upon cleaning it recently, I noticed a LARGE crack in the frame below the barrel. It runs the entire length, from just below the forcing cone to the front of the frame.

I really like this pistol, having traded a blued model of the same type for it. Apart from the frame crack, it's in excellent condition. Smooth action, good lockup, and until I noticed the crack, very accurate.

Should I send this back to S&W? Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

If you bought it used, you'll have to pay the shipping costs both ways. I'd call them directly and run it by them, can't imagine why they wouldn't offer to repair it.

Call the factory first because you may be out of luck. Since it hasn't been made in 5 years or so they may not have any replacement frames.

A friend had a cylinder split open on a mod 60. The factory replaced it free.

The revolver. Not just the cyclinder.

It's my understanding that S&W no longer has any M38 frames. They can replace your frame with a M49 frame though.

Sorry to hear of your crack.
