S&W Agreement Not About Locks and Smart Guns

The Agreement is not about trigger locks and smart guns, although that's the red herring! It about removing guns from the public, and requiring an outrageous code of conduct for independent dealers without any congressional involvement. Some of the items include:

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>
The code of conduct will require authorized dealers and distributors to:

Gun shows: make no gun show sales unless all sales at the gun show are completed only after a background check.

Safety training for purchasers: transfer firearms only to individuals who have passed certified safety course or exam and demonstrate to purchasers how to use all safety devices and how to load, unload, and safely store the firearm before completing the sale.

Multiple handgun sales: all purchasers of multiple handguns to take only one handgun from the store on the day of sale, at which point a multiple sales report will be filed with ATF. The remainder of the guns can only be collected after 14 days.

Child access: require persons under 18 to be accompanied by adults in gun stores or gun sections of stores.

Weapons attractive to criminals: not sell large capacity magazines or semiautomatic assault weapons.

Compliance: provide law enforcement, government regulators, and the Oversight Commission established in this Agreement with access to documents necessary to determine compliance; cooperate fully in the Agreement’s Oversight mechanism.

This is just reprehensible!!! We can't take this quietly!

1) Even in states such as Michigan requiring background checks prior to obtaining a purchase permit?

2) Michigan has a questionnaire when you ask for a permit to purchase.

3) Do most felons purchase multiple handguns at one time prior to committing heinous acts?

4) I don't get this one at all.

5) Aren't cheaper handguns the most attractive? Why not exclude a segment of our population from buying handguns? Ergo, the poor.

6) Why not issue a national identification number for purchasing firearms? We could tattoo it on the forearm. Isn't that what they did with people in concentration camps?

According to one report, the mayors who initially agreed to drop their cities' suits have reneged and say they will go ahead with suits which include S&W. Other cities have not agreed and will also go ahead.

So it looks like S&W sold out and got nothing in return.

I feel much better knowing the government is only using blackmail and extortion to make America "safer", instead of the normal legal process. It isn't possible to win a lawsuit like this one anyway, because the outcome has already been determined....guilty as charged: Guns are unsafe because they fire bullets. No locks or any of this other crap can have any effect on this fact, and these sny smug bastards (and bitches...don't want to be sexist) know it. The real agenda is thinly guised. Once a gun company blinks and complies to some rediculous agreement as did S&W, they set themselves up for a new lawsuit by everybody else who was not part of the original lawsuit. (Same people of course, just different "organization") After all, Hitler gave his word to Stalin that he would never attack Russia....in fact, he even signed an "agreement" that he wouldn't. The rest, as they say, is history...

Joseph is right. This isn't about trigger locks. Who knows what outrageous threats may have been made by "Justice" Department lawyers prior to the W&W settlement agreement? As one poster pointed out above, this is a deal only with the feds, Chicago and other cities are still suing for damages. They're simply picking off the manufacturers one at a time, using Justice Department lawyers to beat them into submission. Note that military and law enforcement guns WON'T be subject to being made more "safe."

Another thought: even if Bush wins, is it going to be possible for S&W's agreement to be rescinded? By agreeing to this expedient resolution, they may find themselves the only U.S. gun maker subject to these absurd provisions. That would be ironic.

What do you mean "if" Bush wins. Hell he better win. The republicans have let us down too often by not stopping and repealing gun laws, but the democrats have gone plum loco. This situation sucks! I wish Gov.Jesse Ventura would run this year. we need him. ddt

The worst part about this is the fatc that national policy is now being dictated by litigation instead of legislation.

Which issue will the liberals hit next...?

The federal government and the justice department have the money and the lawyers to sue any company out of business.

The lawsuits/ investigations filed dont have to have any merit or make any sense. Just look at Clinton, as president of the US he was relentlessly pursued for 4 years by an army of govt paid lawyers over whitewater (he lost $70,000 on the deal!!!!!) FBI files, travelgate etc. The Clintons incurred legal bills of $5 million for groundless unproven charges,
OH I forgot he lied about a blow job. $5 million for a blow job hahahahahahaha.

Congress wasted our time and money and accomplished nothing cause they were worried about a BJ.

The point here is that if they can do it to a sitting president they can do it to a gun company. S&W is facing extinction legal fees can easily put them out of business EVEN if they are in the right.
S&W is just trying to survive.

Other companies like ruger and Colt will follow. Foreign cos. will stop selling to us civilians.

By the way guy's,
S&W is NOT an American company.

You will find non-American companies have little loyalty to our 2nd Amendment rights. Their motives are driven by the bottom line. Continued sales.
Unfortunatly, one of the true American Companies, Ruger, may have to follow in their S&W's footsteps. They haven't indicated this but with no solidarity amongst the gun companies they may have to.

The problem is with S&W, Glock, and Colt jumping ship like they did it makes it difficult for the rest to continue the fight.

Because of this I WILL NOT BUY A GLOCK, S&W, OR COLT EVER AGAIN.

These companies need to realize where the bottom line comes from. Our pockets.

Joseph, does that hi "capacity magazines and assult weapons" thing mean that they cant sell S&W guns in the same store as these? I was outraged to hear that S&W the great gunmaker was actually giving in, and allowing the gov't to further violate the second amendment. Right now, the secong amendment is becomming the most endagered right of the USA's citizens, we need to defend our right, now more then ever, or we might loose it.

leedesert....I think thats the point. Those gun companies that capitulate to the onslaught of Gov't extortion....get shunned by some gun owners. So now you won't ever buy a COLT...GLOCK...S&W.Maybe by the end of the year you will have to add three more gun companies to your list. And on and on,until you won't ever buy a gun again. They won't have to Ban them...most people will not bother to purchase after having to jump through too many hoops...Being made to feel like criminals.Basically..nulifying the 2nd Ammendment.

I just read the agreement with HUD. Good Lord! Where is Glock's e-maill address? I want to add my voice to those trying to persuade Glock not to agree to this abomination!
