S&W 65 Windage adjustment?

I have a heavy barrel S&W model 65. The elevation is ok but the windage is off quite a bit. It groups well but all of the shots are to the left. It seems like I remember hearing someone say that the barrel could be twisted for sight adjustment. Can this safely be done and what is the proper procedure?

I've never heard of that. And, depending on how old your gun is, the barrel may be pinned in place.

How far off are we talking?

An inch at 10 yards? 5 inches?

Your first best bet is to try different brands and weights of ammo to see if there is one that might shoot to a better point of aim for you.

Failing that, you MAY be able to find a gunsmith who can slightly bend the front sight for you.

Smith & Wesson is dead to me.

If you want a Smith & Wesson, buy USED!

I agree with Mike but would first shoot it other handed and maby get someone else to shoot it. Just to make sure it is not a jellyware problem.

I just had that problem with a rifle and it was an overscrew situation with the bbl.

James E. had an old top break that responded well to front sight tweeking but it is a scary proposition.

Sam...old coot that gives a hoot.

Dont try to twist the barrel yourself, it takes a special rig or you can twist the frame.......just package it up and send it back to the factory and tell them the problem.........about three years ago, I sent 5 s/w's back for poor regulation three I owned and two brand new ladysmiths mdl65's would not shoot to point of aim, the other three Id had but not bothered with.....s/w went through all five pistols and replaced both barrels and cylinders on the ladysmiths and a cylinder on an endframe I had shot for over 15 years....and they replaced other stuff on the others..............wether ya hate em or not...they are still the best for that type of repair.....btw, they sent me a check for the shipping cost, and replaced everything for free...fubsy.
