S&W 649 .357 forcing cone question

Hi all, It's been a while since I've posted.

I've got a 649 stainless steel bodyguard .357 mag that I've had for a few years. It only has around 200 rounds of fed .357 125 jhp and 100 rounds of .38 130 fmj through it. Today, I was detail cleaning it and I noticed that on the left hand side of the forcing cone a small lip has formed. It is only on the left hand side and forms a half moon lip that you can feel with your fingernail. The right hand side of the cone looks new and forms a crisp 90 degree angle. There are no cracks or other indications of wear and the gun shoots fine. Should I worry about this slight peening? Has anyone else noticed this? Thanks :)

Is this at the back of the barrel or to the side? Anyway, make sure it is not lead or buildup of crud. If it is steel, then it had to come from somewhere and is most likely the result of bulging of the forcing cone, even if there is no visible sign of a crack. Return the gun to S&W or take it to a good gunsmith; it will eventually give way.

And if you handload, reduce the power in the future.

Jim
