S&W 645

What do you guys think of these guns? I have had one for awhile and have never gotten around to shooting it much. I just pulled mine out of the safe, cleaned and and got to looking at it. It's pretty heavy but a solid gun.

I don't have that particular model, but I do have two S&W 3rd gen autos and they're excellent pistols. Accurate, reliable, good ergonomics; everything you need. Besides, I prefer metal to plastic.

I have one, currently. I had to sell the other some years back to feed the divorce attorney.

Ultra reliable, VERY accurate, thin and not too heavy. A well made 45. One of my favorite pistols. I qualified expert with mine every time. The few stray rounds were my fault.

My 645 is the only 45 pistol to equal my HK USP and Colt Gold Cup in accuracy.

I have a Bar Sto barrel for mine and a complete late production 645 top end. I am saving up to send it off for fitting and Novak night sights. Hell, I may carry it again after that. :) Regards 18DAI

I have the 745(s), single action two-tone version of the 645. My all-time favorite 45auto, exceptionally reliable compared to a 1911 or Sig 220 in my experience. They, S&W, don’t make them anymore but I have enough to last for a while, I think.

My last and only 1911 is a Colt Gold Cup that has been modified. Ramp of frame and ramp of barrel have been modified as well as the extractor. All has been done many moons ago and it’s been a learning experience. It’s reliable but I still trust the 745 more.

The reliability of a 45auto IMO is academic for most because it’s largely a range pistol only. How else will folks learn to clear a jam and have fun at the same time? :D

I have had 645 since they first were available. Traded a Gvmn't property marked, Colt 1911 merged in 1918 for it even up. Reasonable deal at the time, but monetarily now I got hosed!!! Doesn't matter, I got what I wanted, but it was one of several trades that led to my signature line.
What I wanted was a 45ACP to hammer rounds through, and not a museum piece to keep locked away in a display case.
The 645 has filled the roll of a shooter quite well. Rugged, reliable, and accurate with ergonomics I find hard to beat anywhere.
Besides, if the S&W 645 was good enough for Sonny Crockett in Miami Vise (Seasons 3-4), it's good enough for me!
Now, if I can just get a deal on a Testarossa, and a Scarab!:D

Good gun along with the 3rd gen guns.

Prices are creeping up and the nice ones are less common. I would not sell mine and if I see a high conditon one at a cheap price I would be tempted to buy it to pass on to a new shooter or friend.

645

I've had a 645 since 1987 and it's the only .45 that I have ever owned. Feeds and shoots anything you give it. Do your part and it's a very accurate weapon.:)
