Checkout the Kramer Pocket holster and the Confident Shirt Holster better than IWB or Belt holsters and its really concealed.

http://www.kramerleather.com/

" The KRAMER® Pocket Holster does all the things you expect a good pocket holster to do. It ensures the gun will stay in the same place inside your pocket, stops the front sight from wearing a hole in your pocket, prevents the flutes on a revolver's cylinder from cutting painfully into your body, ensures the gun will not be wrapped in a wad of pocket material when you go to grab it to defend your life. AND it also disquises the shape of the gun as seen through the pocket."

I am carrying one for 10 years every day and its good as new!!!!!

"Designed with input from members of America's most elite covert ops groups and undercover police, The CONFIDANT is not a fast draw holster. Worn under a shirt, blouse, or dress it is meant for those occasions when concealment is crucial, or when clothing limits the concealment of all but the smallest of handguns" From their website

I had a DOD agent look to see if I was carrying and he said no. When I showed him the Confident he said he needs to be more careful.

Kramer also make premium leather holsters too. Horsehide or Cow. :D :D

I've got one of these, and love it. Bought mine with the S&W laser grips, then went and replaced them with a used pair of the tiny S&W Chief's Special wood grip panels. I wanted the smallest overall size possible. Some say this is punishing to the shooter, but after 50 rounds you get used to it... ;)

As for a decent holster, check out the Uncle Mikes pocket holster for this thing. I have one, and it works perfect for this firearm, and just a mere $10:

Realize the 642 is a J frame revolver with the round butt (as opposed to the square butt). So the Hogue grips you're looking for are these:

642, Hogue makes two kinds of rubber grips for J frame guns. THeir regular rubber grips and the Bantam models.

I prefer the regulars but the bantams hide in a pocket better. Almost every quality holster make will offer a snubby holster of some sort or another.

the hogue bantam grips do conceal better...they stop flush with the bottom and back of the gripframe. they do not use the mounting stirup on the bottom of the frame...the snap around the frame from the front.

if you don't mind using conventional screws to mount your grips, you might also take a look at the uncke mike's version of the "boot grip". they are a rubber version of craig spegal's (sp?) outstanding wooden grips.

i carry my 642 in a fobus paddle holster. but i'm lazy, and it is just for running out of the house on errands

The Uncle Mike's Butler Creek rubber boot grips are great little grips indeed and conceal well.

But if you want what I think is by far the most comfortable and recoil absorbing rubber grip on the market... that would be Pachmayr Compac (NOT the Prof. Compac, which is thinner and has an exposed backstrap). Being somewhat larger, these grips are a bit less concealable, but offer superb control and comfort, and have a nice spot for your little finger. As with all things, whenever you want a benefit (comfort), there is an associated cost (larger size). I use them on this J-frame:

The power of a .357 in a J-frame makes the Pachy Compac almost a necessity for my use, but when shooting .38's in J-frame guns, I sometimes go with the smaller and lighter Uncle Mike's boots.

I carry mine in my front pocket always, and usually use an Uncle Mikes pocket holster. Been carrying like this for years.

I have the boot grips on mine, they came with the gun. I have tried different ones over the years, and these are what I liked best.

Bought one last year. Got some altamont rosewood finger groove grips and love them! Really helps me handle the recoil and doesn't seem to sacrifice covertness. I use a Safariland model 64(?) pocket holster and it works well too. Wear all of this in with a suit.

i carry a 342, which is simalier to the 642, in a el cheapo mikes 2 inch j frame pocket holster or a desantis j frame iwb. you should have no trouble finding one you like. go to a local gun shop and try a couple out.
