Anyone know where I can get better rubber grips(not ugly hard wood or plastic. I am looking for rubber grips. I hate the factory grips, there is no back support to it and stings.

I also like them to be around the same size, not some large stick out uglies grip thanks!

The only thing I have found is a Hogue Bantam Grips

Pachmayr Compacs are great for shooting, but may be too big for your taste. There's also a Compac Pro, which is smaller but doesn't cover the back strap.

I like the ugly Uncle Mike's Boot Grips that came on my 442-1. I think they're great, but ugly. It all depends on what works for you.

Hogue Bantam grips are reasonably compact, but they do not cover the backstrap. Truthfully, any grip that will add much "cushion" will also more than likely add noticably to the bulk of your revolver.

It has been my experience that the material from which the grips are made and whether or not they cover the backstrap is of less importance than how well the grip fills your hand. What you want is something with enough palmswell to distribute the recoil impulse out over a larger area without being so large as to make the gun unnecessarily bulky or force you to hold the grip at an odd or uncomfortable angle.

Remember too, a lightweight revolver like the ones you're talking about are going to have a decent amount of recoil regardless of what grips you install on them. If you cannot find a grip that works well for you, you might consider a heavier, all-steel revolver like a M36, M40, M49, M60, M640, or M649 as the added weight will help to dampen the recoil.

So, you want a pair of grips that cover the back strap but don't stick out to much and are not "ugly". It's hard to determine what you mean by "ugly" because you also pegged wood grips as "ugly". I've never seen a pair of J-frame rubber grips that I'd consider pretty but they are not supposed to be.

Hard wood is ugly, and it hurts/stings.. I like the uncle mikes(factory grips) but there is no back strap to them.... If they could just cover the back some I would be happy.

Hate to tell you this but if you're shooting the 642 airweight, it won't matter what grips you have, recoil will still sting your hand.
