I don't own any revolvers, yet, but I do have a 9mm pistol. Thinking of getting this gun as a "house" gun (it has a 4 inch barrel). Its not new but condition is "Excellent" whatever that means. Any advice? Good deal or not?

Thanks!

Is the s&w 64 a good option in a .38 special revolver? What other guns should I consider? Thanks for the feedback.

The Model 64 is a very nice revolver.
The price seems a little high unless it is in very good condition. Offer them $175.00 in cash. They may decide to get rid of it. Most people want semiautomatics. :)

The mod 64 is a great gun. I have a Model 10 which is the blued version, and it is a great gun. I'd buy it(that is if I had some money)

An excellent choice for a "house gun". At gunshows is see (plus or minus $15) old police issue S&W 64s at $185, 65s at $200, and 66s at $225. Great values for great guns. IMO though, either of .357 Mags is a better choice, even if you were going to shoot strictly .38 Spl. -- Kernel

Damn, I wish I was seeing the prices you guys are. Here in good old North Carolina, it has been years since I've seen ANY stainless steeel S&W revolver that was less than $200, unless it had been used as a boat anchor.

Same here. A basically decent but somewhat worn Model 10 goes for $225 in my area. Stainless K-frames are higher.

Texas and Oklahoma have some of the lowest prices in the country that I am aware of. I have heard that there are others. I am going to the Louiville, Ky. gun show this weekend and hope for good prices there too since Keislers and K-Y Imports are both close by.

I'm going to a local gun show this weekend and see what the prices are in my area for comparison.

Thanks all!

BTW: I'm starting to think maybe the 686 would be a more versatile gun... if I can find a good deal I might just go that route... decisions, decisions...
