S&w 632

I've had a 632 pro for a few years now. Bought brand new. Always told my wife "firearms are an investment, not an expense"; am I finally right? How much is it worth now?

^^^ Also, for uncommon recent-production discontinued Smiths, I've observed that values for "collector grade" LNIB or 98%+ examples are often disproportionately higher than an example that's been extensively fired, has surface wear, and/or is missing the box and other new-gun paraphernalia. This is particularly true of guns in unusual calibers (like this one) or that have unusual features (like the ported barrels used on some of these).

The guys and gals who are paying $800+ for a poor-selling S&W that's been out of the catalog for only 2-3 years are generally buying it as an investment to be parked semi-permanently in the safe. These folks typically just aren't interested in a perfectly functional but high-round-count gun with mild holster wear, even at half that price.

Lastly, it's hard to put a firm price on uncommon guns like this in "shooter-grade" condition, as there's often little guidance or precedent to be found. It's generally a matter of unpredictable market conditions.

Probably not a whole lot, since the gun's concept is questionable as a shrouded hammer gun in a caliber that needs some barrel length to make sense. It's just kind of goofy, unless you shoot some of the alternate, tamer calibers in it, say 32 S&W Long. It would now be overshadowed by Ruger's efforts in 327 Federal Magnum except for the Smith bigots.

I too look at my firearms as an investment, but not as a money making investment, but an investment in tools. No different than a good hammer, lawnmower or miter-saw. No different than a quality pair of binos, good hunting knives and well fitting boots.

Go to gunbroker and see what they are selling for, not what's being asked. That will tell you what it's worth. Whether it's worth selling is up to you.

actually Real Gun i was wrong...the last 3 632-2 pro series sold on gun broker went for $1600, $1525 and $1631.

There is "stupid rich", I suppose. How would one justify that kind of money for what I see as a white elephant gun (S&W apparently agrees, if they dropped it), with all due respect to those who actually admire and use the gun?

its rare and they just gotta have it? another gun which was discontinued for lack of sales, the k32, just sold for over $7000. a north american arms ranger breaktop 22 magnum just sold for $2525. again it was discontinued quickly and not many made

<kicks self for not buying the new 315 Night Guard I fondled at LGS several years ago> :o

Then again, I would have more or less immediately fired hundreds of rounds through it, thus ruining its collector value.
