I have a 629 Classic and want to install a Burris LER scope...the barrel is around 7 or 8 inches long...what base and rings do you recommend....will there be drilling involved?

Your 629 classic should have predrilled holes, just take rear sight off and place a sight mount on. Then your all set to mount your scope.
 
You 629 will be drilled and tapped from the factory(has a 6 1/2" barrel)...just take off your rear sight and their underneith. I like the weaver bases(you need a number 401...a 401S if you want a silver one) as you can get them in a finish to match the gun...their rings are also good stuff.
