S&W 627 Thoughts Please

Thinking of buying a new S&W Performance Center 627 8-shot 357 mag. What are you thoughts on this gun? Thanks a lot.

I'm very happy with mine but admitedly have only had it to the range once so far (and that was with .38spl). I'm hoping to take it out on Saturday and try various .357 rounds.

It was very comfortable and accurate with the .38's. This is my first S&W so I can't compare it to the other models firsthand, but I like it.

can you shoot 38 super out of this gun as well? i read somewhere on here that a guy was doing it with a ruger i think it was. just a thought. i already have a kimber stainless target in 38 super so ammo is already in hand. like i said it is just a thought. let me know if it is possible.

I only rented this guy, but I quite liked him. Was very comfortable shooting, good shot to shot recovery time, and good practical accuracy... plus you have to like a revolver with as much capacity as a single stack 1911

It isn't small, being an N-frame with a 5" barrel, so would be stretching it to use it as a CCW. But, for range and home defense, I think a great gun.

P.S. You would need to shoot them for yourself, but an alternative to the 5" N-frame 8-shot 627PC is the 6" L-frame 7-shot 686P. It has even better shot to shot recovery time, and in my hands, practical accuracy, due to the heavier, longer barrel. The 686P is also more common, and so will be easier to find aftermarket parts for.

I own two five-inch barrel 627 Special Editions (unfluted cylinder, gold dot front sight, full underlug) and an older five-inch 27-2. These are all superb .357 magnum N Frames: VERY accurate, durable, reliable, and top-quality. I would strongly recommend any 627 without reservations.
