I recently purchased a 625JM but have not fired it yet. I know with revolvers that fire a rimmed cartridge that you can just load them in the cylinder but the 625 fires the 45 acp so do you have to use moonclips in order to load and fire the 625 or can they be loaded in the cylinder and fired the same as a 38 or 44 etc. Thank you.

The rimless rounds should headspace just fine on the case mouth, but would be difficult to extract using your fingernails; moonclips speed up the process nicely.

you should be able to use autorim brass also. I got a 625 when they first came out and it definitely shot better with autorim loads as compared to acp loads

Thank you everyone for your replies.
Tamara unfortunately I live in Mass. so it is difficult to order ammo out of state.
I would move if I was single.

Best to use the clip. I have READ (not seen) of recent guns with chambers too long for headspacing.
If you want something for casual shooting that you can load and unload without tools, check out the Rimz plastic moon clips.

My son, who is now 26, has a S&W 625 that I purchased for him when he was a teenager, so roughly 10 years ago. We've fired it a lot with both 45ACP and 45 Auto Rim, and the former both without and with full and half-moon clips. I don't have any trouble removing the ACP empties from the cylinder using just my fingers, but getting the brass out of the clips can be a real PITA. Of course, the Auto Rim is just like any other rimmed revolver brass, easy to extract in the normal fashion, but not nearly so easy to come by and factory loaded rounds are not generally available.

When we're just plinking or doing informal target practice, we use the ACP without the clips. In the few IPSC or IDPA matches that he's shot with the revolver, we use ACP loaded into full moon clips. Half moon clips and the Auto Rim brass are, IMHO, not worth the bother or expense.
