Anyone have the new 4" with the fulllug barrel? My dealer cannot locate the mountain gun version, and said they are not making the mountain gun in .45acp anymore, just the 4" heavy barrel.Should i order the 4"heavy or keep looking for the mountain gun version??How does it shoot?Would you use it as a ccw gun?(i like revolvers)If i go with the 4"heavy will i have a hard time locating a good holster?

Thanks for any help.

Alessi Hideout.

Works great for me with my M28 and PC625.
It also works pretty well with my 4 inch 686 Plus.

KML, where are you located? I know I saw one at the Gun Show in Monroeville, PA. today - but I don't know what they were asking, as I was on another mission.

I am in Philadelphia.I passed up one back in Dec. at the Ft.Washington Expo Center gunshow,i was looking for something else and did not know S&W was switching to .45 colt for this years 625 mountain gun.I have ordered the 4" fulllug barrel one with my dealer,i just feel the need for a .45acp revolver.

What is the Point of a .45 ACP Revolver?

I admit that I am interested in having a .45 ACP revolver, but why? I have a beautiful Ruger 9 MM revolver which kills my hand to shoot. After firing two cylinders, I am begging for mercy. A .45 ACP revolver, even one weighing a pound more than the Ruger SP101, must have severe recoil. Since .45 autos can hold nine or so rounds to the revolvers six, and since the construction of the auto reduces the recoil below that of a revolver, what is the point of a .45 ACP revolver beyond novelty and collector interest?

There are others here who could be more technical, but...

The 9mm operates at a higher pressure to achieve it's power from such a small cartridge.

The .45 is a big old cartridge, operating from a bigger case, with lower pressures. The recoil of 45acp is more of a push than a snap.

You will find that 45 revolvers are considerably larger than an SP101. The bullets themselves are .45 of an inch in diameter and to get five of them into a revolver cylinder requires a large diameter cylinder, and a large revolver to house it.

Personally, I think 45 revolvers are pussycats to shoot. There more perceived recoil in a 1911 style auto, because of all the moving and slamming going on in front of you when the slide does its thing.

DrakeJake:

The SP101 is a small-framed revolver. The Ruger GP100 and S&W Model 66 are medium-framed revolvers.

The S&W model 625 in 45 ACP is a large-framed revolver. In otherwords, the 625 is a whole lot bigger and heavier than your SP101. As a result, no, it doesn't have much recoil.

The Army Navy Store in Reading PA has a MT gun in 45acp in stock, I do not remember the price, but it looked real good. The lock up was pretty good if I remember right, they had a m66 I was going to buy but missed, day late.

if you get it you gotta report back....

as I posted earlier there is a 45 mountain gun at the Reading Pa Army navy store it is a 625 - 6 sn cet 17xx $579 it is marked 45 colt but has a 45acp cylinder.

The store phone number 610 921 0251

Drakejake: Another benefit of a .45 acp revolver is that the brass is a heck of alot easier to recover without scrounging around in the dirt outside, or on the floor of a range (if your into reloading). My Kimber throws brass over into the next booth and that gets a little embarrassing as well.

My 625 ACP, a 5 inch, is the most enjoyable revolver I own to fire. The gun is BIG, an N-frame! Recoil is very tame.
