S&W 625 vs. 625JM

I'm thinking of getting a model 625 soon. Is the 625JM the way to go? I'm not sure I'd like the wood grips. Are there other features that make it worth having? The S&W site doesn't really say much about the regular 625. I assume both models are machined for full moon clips. Is that right? I plan to use this in IPSC and IDPA competition.

I have a SW625jm complete with the jm wood grips, and it's a nice shooting wheelgun. Deadly accurate, easy recoil, comes with 5 moon clips (I just purchased 10 more), and is a beautiful piece. :D

The SW 625 comes with Hogue rubber grips, and I'm not sure about the 625 being machined for moon clips, but I would double assume about that.

Here's my baby!!!

I have been in the market for my first firearm for quiet some time now. This past weekend a gentleman at the local range introduced me to the model 625JM. My first impression of the firearm was very similar to yours. I was, like you, "not sure about the wooden grips". Well, after being shown how the gun works with and without moon clips (they're a breeze to use), round after round went nowhere but right into the blackness of the bullseye. (No small feat for someone new to the sport.) The model 625 has excellent balance and I have yet to find a handgun that fits my hand better than the 625JM. Let us know how you fare, and what you decide to purchase! Good luck!
