Just got back from the gun show with my latest find and had a question. The dealer said that this is a Lew Horton revolver. The serial number checks out,but the sights are wrong.According to the Supica book,it should have red ramp and white outline sights, but this has a pinned plain front and plain rear. Also,it lists the Horton guns as 624-2,but this one is a 624 with no dash.Any ideas?

As best as I can tell, there's been two runs

according to the SCoSW. One product code identifies the gun as you describe it. It is specifically listed as a '-2'. That engineering change occured in 1990. The other product code is also for a 3" Lew Horton, dating the gun in '85, which is concurrent with the 'no dash' introductory run.

Perhaps this is one of the errors in the book, or perhaps your find is one of an unknown variant. Personally, I like patridge sights better, and I think you did well.:)

I just got the same gun over the weekend. Mine is a 624 with no dash. I is a 3 incher. round butt, red ramp, white outline rear. I was told it was a 1985 Lew Horton Special edition. My SN Range is ALUO2##. I'm curious as to how many were made.

"My SN Range is ALUO2##. I'm curious as to how many were made."

Supica and Nahas show that the prefix "ALU" was assigned to a special run of Lew Horton engraved revolvers, but it only went from 001 to 100. The other 5,000 Lew Horton units had a different prefix (don't have the book in front of me).

S & N are the first to admit that they do not have all serial number and product run info, but it sure sounds like yours is related to the Lew Horton run.

But whatever, if it's in good condition, it sounds like you have a pretty nice firearm there.
