hello again;
when last i shot my 3" 624 i experienced my cyl. binding.
on investigation i found a small pin at rear of cyl. had came loose and moved out untill it rubbed on th frame.the pin seems to align with a hole in the extractor.
what is this pin and how do i secure it.
i was gonna use locktite but i would rather do the proper repair...thnx
let me know if you need more info

Don't mess with it. Call Smith & Wesson and tell them the problem. Get the answer straight from the manufacturer.

The pin is an indexing pin for the extractor and helps keep the extractor properly in place during operation.

Like Bacon said, call S&W and let them advise you as to the proper course of action.

There are two small pins that hold the extractor star in place. They do come loose fairly often. The newer Smiths don't have them.

A gunsmith shouldn't have any problem getting that straighted out. The trick is to get it back in straight so the star will go back in place without binding. Also, it has to fit tight enough so it won't back out once more. The other pin may be loose. I've seen many old service revolvers missing one and sometimes both.

I think the cylinder pins are press fit at the factory.

If your pin isn't bent/broken, some red Loc-Tite will keep it in place.

Just clean the hole really well, and make sure you let it set up overnight before using.

I've got a couple guns that have lasted years this way.

Good Luck...

Joe
