I am a fan of the 10 mm auto cartridge, I have 2 Colt Delta Elite, a G20 and a formerly NIB S&W 1006, so I really needed a S&W 610 revolver. In fact I’ve been wanting one for a long time but they seem to be quite rare here in Switzerland



I recently got a call from a gentleman who contacted me 1 1/2 years ago. He had one for sale then, but it was heavily customised for IPSC, quick release, different sights, dozens of moon clips, case etc, and it was expensive at 2 grands so I politely declined.



He was kind enough to me call again to advise me that an LGS had four for sale, two 5’’ and two 6.5’’. I thought that was a great gesture.



Price was $ 1000, which I think is quite reasonable. I chose a 5’’ and I received it yesterday.

Very nice gun in great condition, I don’t think it fired much. Forcing cone is like new and there’s no flame cutting, merely a discolouration. It has a wide target hammer and a wide smooth trigger

Being a N frame it’s a heavy gun with a big cylinder and the round butt with the narrow bottomed combat grip feels odd to me, it accentuates the nose heavy feeling.

So I found a N square combat grip in my stash and it feels a lot better ... except for the gap at the bottom.

Now the challenge here (Switzerland) is finding moon clips.

I guess I can test fire the gun without them and eject the spent cases with a rod ?

I can pull them out with my fingernails. You really only need the moon clips if you are shooting .40 S&W.

That is a beauty. I had two of the early 5" 610s, at different times. They were a couple of the nicest S&W revolvers I ever owned, and definitely the most accurate 10MM handguns I ever owned. Even the 5" guns were so muzzle heavy that the round butt grips felt odd to me too. I sold both of mine before they became the collectible revolvers they are today. Enjoy yours.
 
I too recently purchased a S&W 610 10mm. I LOVE it. Very ACCURATE with any ammo I've fed it and the standard 180gr factory loads are dead on bullseye without having to touch the sights. Enjoy your 610. Nice wood grips BTW.
 
Looks nice, I had a 6" 610 about 10 years ago or more. I've also had the Ruger GP100 Match Champion 10mm which is quite nice as well.
 
I have a love/hate thing going with the 610's. They are so close to what I want, but the cylinder is just a tad too short. What I wanted was- a longer cylinder in order to have it reamed to .38-40WCF. Why? I dunno, I guess just so I could be the only kid on my block to have one.
 
I have a GP100 in 10mm. It’s laser accurate and my handloads chrono at anything a 357 can offer. It’s my woods carry gun.

You could always have a 610 cylinder reamed to 10mm Magnum...its what I plan on doing in a few years to my 610.

I managed to give it a quick test run at the range, rapid DA fire at close range (abt 7 m) center mass shots (head shots was my buddy in SA slow fire).

Great gun, I’m super happy

Nice, I have always loved the 610 with a 5"tube, to me it feels like a perfect balance.

Years ago I had a Ruger GP100 converted to 10mm, this was done well before Ruger decided to start making DA revolvers in 10mm. It is a fine piece of craftsmanship.
 
I bought a 610-61/2" last year great revolver, I've been loading .40 S&W for about 2 years so going with 10mm was a no brainer. the cost difference was minimal and payoff was big.hard to believe factory 10mm is close to 1.00 a round for good HP. My hand rolled 180 gr. XTP/BE86 are close to 1250 fps( guesstimate by loading manual).
couldn't be happie with my choise.
 
Can't see going 10mm MAG, much harder shooting more wear and tear on the gun.You can load SAFELY to 1300 fps. as it is.
