S&W 60 new to me

Recent trip to the LGS resulted in a S&W model 60 having a new home :)
I hadn’t seen anything in the LGS on my radar in quite a while.

Initial checkout showed it hadn’t been abused; however it was difficult to open the cylinder. It looked like the locking bolt needed a little work.

It was too good to pass up at $499 so out comes the 4473.

I got home and took it all apart and gave it a good cleaning and once over.

I discovered it had a few issues but nothing I couldn’t fix.

The extractor tube had internal burr and the center pin bound in it so I reamed the burr with a number drill bit the same size as the inside of the inside extractor tube.

The yoke was sprung slightly to left and with the adjustment tool/fixture that was corrected.

The yoke barrel had been stretched by an amateur and it has ~ .002 endshake but I will not mess with it because the threads were a little rough and remove/replacing for testing fit may cause bigger problems with the threads.

The locking bolt had a sharp edge and pin end had machine marks so I smoothed them up and removed the sharp edges.

After the fixes and a set of Wolff springs it’s quite the shooter now. Trigger is nice, opens easily and all cleaned up.

Congrats. Very nice wheel gun.
I have owned numerous J frames over the years and am very tempted to purchase another ,but I keep being tempted by another the Glock 26.

I have always liked the model 60. Have owned several over the years, and they have all been great guns. Which Wolf springs did you put in? I usually use the 8.5 lb standard tension hammer spring and a 12 lb rebound in a J frame.

I carried one of these as a backup in RVN.
Bobbed the hammer and opened the front of the guard.
I never had to use it, but it was there and handled the debris from swamps and streams and the dust of dryer areas quite well.
Gave it to my interpreter when I left.

I was holding a 60 no dash today at my LGS and it was marked $369, and my LGS is notorious for selling used guns for ~20% less than marked prices. Trigger felt good, lock up good. I was thinking of buying, but am in between jobs right now. Should I sell the cat and go back tomorrow to pick it up?

I used the reduced power 8LB hammer spring and the 13LB rebound.

I took it out for a test drive this morning. This was at 7 yards. Wasn't one of my best days shooting but not a bad group for shooting less than 30 rounds before this target.
