A friend of mine is looking to sell his stainless S&W 5906. He is including 3 hi cap mags and is asking $500. It is in excellent condition. Just wondering what you all thought.

brossi, I payed $400 for my 5904(blued)with 1 full capacity mag. It had about 600 rounds thru it. The 15rd. mags sell new for $55 each, and aftermarket 15rd. for 25-35 Dollars.(if you can find them) I saw a 5906 recently, NIB at a gunshow for $475, but declined because of the S&W sellout on gunowners.

Hope this helps----McChainsaw

You shouldn't pay any more than 400.00 for a used 5906. (I personaly wouldn't pay more than 350) For 500.00, it better be brand new... which it probably isn't if he's got 3 "original-cap" magazines.

You're getting ripped off for $500.00
Go buy a "Shotgun News" and look at the prices. ($329.00 for GUN, 1-10 round AND 1-15 round mag)

It's a good gun ... don't get me wrong,
Ben

I bought a used 5906 at a gun show about a year ago. It was in 99% condition in original box with manual and two 15 rnd mags, the price was $380. It was sitting on its box on the table and at first I thought it was a new one. In other words, I also believe $500 is too steep.

Thanks for the input guys. I was going to recomend a friend of mine buy this since he was in the market for a new gun. My wife would kill me if I bought it since I've bought a new H&K 45f and a used S&W 13-3(got this for $85 in very good condition). I guess I'll tell me friend to forget it.

Thanks again,
Bob

I think the 5906 is a kind of "sleeper" among modern pistols--it's a very good gun, but it doesn't command a lot of attention. Anyway, $500 is high. The hi-caps make the price more tolerable, but IMHO it's the gun not the mags that should set the selling price.

BTW, my dealer--who used to be reasonable but whose prices have risen dramatically in the last year--would probably charge $450-475 for the 5906 with two hi-caps, and sell the third hi-cap for $60 extra.

The bottom line, of course, is that the gun is worth what anyone is willing to pay.

[/quote]I guess it depends on what part of the country you are in. If I were to sell my 5906, I would be looking for about $500 for it as well as I think that it is a fine pistol.

It's a good gun and it would be hard to find something equivalent for the $$. I have a 5904 and agree with FUD that I would want that for mine with the extra mags.

I too agree that $500 is high. I sold my 5906 with 2 15-rd mags for $350. To a good friend of mine. The 5906 is a good field gun. It digested almost anything I threw at it. But it is also a spray and pray gun and not much accuracy.
