S&W 5906, broken extractor

Today I had the little hook at the end of my extractor break off.
Seems like it should be a simple enough repair; however, I am by no means a gunsmith, and have never done more than field strip pistol for fear of springs flying across the room, parts not fitting back together, or ending up with extra parts once everything is back together.
It does look like it's just one pin holding it in place, but I'm hesitant to just tap it out.
Is this something I can fix on my own, or should I be thinking of bringing it to a smith?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Also, if this something I can do on my own, anyone know how one finds parts like this for pistols that are out of production?

I have had to replace several extractors on my SW 3rd generation pistols like the 5906. Unfortunately it is not simply a drop in part as there is a metal pad which may have to be filed down to get the right extractor tension. Thus you probably need to have a SW gunsmith do it right or email the factory and they may have you send them the slide and they can do it (SW customer service is some of the best around).

I got my new extractors from Numrich gun parts, at www.e-gunparts.com. Good luck.

Merry Christmas- oldandslow
