I'm in the process of purchasing one and would like some input. I shot my friend's pistol and really liked the handling. Quite accurate too. Thanks.

French, I've had one for 11 yrs or so. First handgun I bought. Hasn't been shot much. Fits my hand better than any gun I own (several), haven't shot many hollowpoints through it. Hicap mag availability should be good. Mostly keep it for sentimentality, most of which went out the door when *&* sold out. Anyhow, if it is a decent price, and fits your hand, go for it. Nice piece. Good luck.

Frenchy, In editing my previous post I would
like to thank jhp147 for reminding me that the ~&~ 5906 is made of part stainless construction. You are absolutely correct;
as the 6906 is a "short grip" frame version
9m/m!!! :D :)

Ala Dan,
No, the 5906 is all stainless, the 5903,5904 are the aliminum framed and/or blued or "subdued" versions of the pistol.(don`t ask me why they chose these particular model #`s...?) :)

Frenchy,
I have owned my 5906 (heavy!) for a few years, and have exchanged the "rounded butt" grip with the straight backed grip from a S$W 910 ( newer "economy line" pistol ).
I feel the newer grip fits my hand great.

Factory "standard capacity" 15 round mags are readily available and not too expensive.

*&* sold us out, but fortunately I already owned my *$* line of guns:
- 4" 686 Plus .357 Mag.
- 5906 9mm.
- 457 .45ACP
- 39-2 9mm.

I must unfortunately hope that either a buy-out happens, or a change of management happens along with TOTAL ABOLISHMENT of "The Agreement" to even consider recommending a new purchase... (unless you buy USED)

JMHO.

Good luck, and Enjoy! :)

The 5906 functioned flawlessly. The only, and very minor, complaint I have is the accuracy. There are always a few flyers in the group with the 5906. :)

The last number on S&W autos identifies it as either stainless or blued. Thus the 5906 is stainless while the 5904 is blued. The 6906 is a stainless compact 12 rounds pistol and the 6904 a blued version of the same.

Thanks for all the feedback guy's. I feel I'm making a good purchase on a solid pistol.
