S&w 5904

Had a question concerning a S&W 5904. Before you start flaming on me, let me just say that it's a question asked by my cousin. The pistol itself was bought before S&W sold us all down the river. It would seem that my uncle's a former federal LEO and wants to get rid of some his collection.

What's the general consensus out there concerning these pistols? Are they accurate, durable, and just plain worth the money? Speaking of money, what's one worth used anyway? Any input and help would be greatly appreciated.

I paid $360 for a used one in excellent condition with two hi-caps. I took it to the range twice and found it to be "just another 9mm".

The gun was reasonably accurate and performed reliably but there was nothing special about it. It didn't have the Sig-225's great grip, the CZ75's exceptional accuracy, or the innovative design of the Walther P99.

So I traded it in on a Sig-P226 in .357sig. Ooo-la-la, now there's a gun to brag about...

Final answer--just another nine.

Used..anywhere from $200 to $350.

It's pretty much your "run of the mill" handgun. Nothing really special. Accuracy is ok and durability should be just fine. It would make a good general purpose shooter.

My particular weapon wasn't fitted very well. The slide to frame fit was sloppy as well as barrel to slide fit. The slide to frame fit doesn't mean much, but the barrel to slide fit contributed to the average accuracy I was getting. The alloy frame should hold up fine to shooting a diet of standard loads.

It is a decent pistol, but it didn't have any real endearing qualities to me, so I ended up getting rid of it.

I bought one a month ago with the case and three factory hicaps for $300.00. Changed the curved grip for a straight back model, makes an excellent carry gun.

They are fast, accurate, and the only thing wrong with them is that no one likes S&W semi autos.

Everyone is going to get into the preban/postban BS hysteria, so your gun isn't going to be worth what it's worth to most folks.

Ignorance is second only to stupidity............rant mode off.

Let me know how much you want for it, I'll take another one any time.

Probably worth upwards of $350.00(a little more, a little less, yada yada yada). I really liked mine, a good no frills, no nonsense pistol. I let it go to fund another project.
