S&W 52-1 or DW Valor

I have been thinking about selling my Smith & Wesson Model 52-1 and buying a Dan Wesson Valor. The 52 has been with me for twenty years and I really love the gun. I do not want to loose the ability to make those shots that create memories such as the 52 has done. It is very accurate if I do my part.

I do hand load all of my cartridges and do not have problems with FTEs or any of that.

I have never shot a Valor and many will say shoot one first, then make up your mind, which is great advice so let's jump over that one.

I don't shoot in league and the 52 is always in a clean rug, never holstered, so no, it is not a carry gun.

I have no way of shooting a Valor at this time, thus I ask the question of you, would I be dissapointed or happy with the performance versus the 52?

I know there will be a delta in cost, but the 52-1 would come with original box, manual, 3 mags, 2 not used, extra spring, spare extractor (just in case!), and three sets of grips, Rosewood non-checkered, original (pretty oil soaked, but still in good condition), and an unused set of grips like the original. Gun is in 98% condition. Oh, also the barrel wrench, so it should cover the majority of the cost.

Any of you gents have both of these? Which is the most accurate? Best trigger? Fun to shoot?

DW Valors are very nice 1911's but have gone up in price.

They were a bargain but now are in the range of low end semi custom 1911's. Sound like you love the present S&W. I would definitely not trade unless you have the opportunity to shoot a Valor and love it.

Good Luck,

Do whatever possible to be able to keep the Model 52. I've had mine since the early 80s and no way in hell will I let it go.

It's the smoothest, easiest shooting gun ever made.

I don't really know what the DW Valor is, but I know it can't compair to the Model 52 for pure class.

They dont make 52s any more, nor do they make any thing compairable.

The Valor is one of the multitude of 1911 knockoffs. Seen one, you have seen them all. The Valor has a good reputation but it will not take the place of your M52 for comfortable, accurate shooting.

I had a 52-1, sold it to fund something else (that I have already forgotten) and replaced it with a -2. It does not get out as much as it used to, being that IDPA is my present main game, but it is so relaxing to just plunk out wadcutters with. A friend breaks in new shooters with his, it is soft to shoot but makes a bigger hole than a .22.

Custom 1911s are like buses, if you miss one there'll be another one along pretty soon. Model 52s are like real estate, they aren't making any more. I wouldn't trade my Model 52 anymore than I'd say good bye to my Model 41.

Thanks gentlemen, I will be keeping the 52. I appreciate your comments, all of you are quite correct and even if I was not dissapointed with the Valor, I still would regret selling the 52. I may have still been considering it though if the responses would have been different. Thanks again.
