S&W 50 caliber double action revolver

I had a long talk with the Smith people at the Shot Show. They are just starting development work on a double action 50 caliber revolver. Exactly what diameter bullet will be used is unclear. May not fire a case now available. Will involve developing and building a new frame.

That could be VERY cool...like the old British military revolvers like the .577 Tranter. Kinda tough to carry concealed, but you would definitely see the whites of their eyes!!!

isn't there a law

that at some point in a handgun, and I thought it was .50 cal, that it was classified by the BATF as a destructive device and needed special licensing?

If S&W does this I hope it isn't some huge gun. Keep it as small as possible, preferably a 5 shot, and load it to low pressures so it doesn't have to weigh 3-4 lbs.

Yea, Yea, Yea.

BFD

Desperate times call for desperate measures.
I still won't buy one. (The fools. When will they wake up???)

Obviously; the wrong people bought the company. Again.
Perhaps the NEXT sale will fix it.

.50 S&W N-Frame?

I'm there, it'd hafta be the N frame and a five shot ala the Bowen .50 Special on the Redhawks.
Bore diameter on the .500 Linebaugh is .510 (he won an ATF exemption) and the .50ae is .500.
They may just slap a rim on the .50ae and have the Ultimate Alaska Backpacker?
