S&W 48-2

I have a running WTB ad for ammo, many people stopped shooting, sold the gun and still have the ammo. I get a lot of contacts and buy it at very interesting conditions. Mostly ammo I use and have guns for, but occasionally other calibers too, especially when it’s very cheap.

So in February I got this lot of .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire, 700 rounds, cheaper than new .22 lr.

Now I found the perfect gun for it. Very good condition S&W 48-2, 6 inch, from 1974 I believe. Paid $ 860, which is a bit more than I would have liked, but it’s a rare bird around here and condition is really nice. Previous owner said he never fired it.

My hands are too large for those grips (Magnas ?), and this guy was selling two pairs of grips on the internet, expensive, he wanted $ 330 for both, but they’ve been online forever. I made him an offer and we settled on $ 240.

Removed the original ones. Black washers, numbered to the gun. I’ll keep those preciously.

One pair is rosewood NOS, the other one looks like walnut. That’s the one I used

To me, that gun certainly looks like new! I can believe the previous owner that he never fired it. I like the smaller grips, too, especially the rosewood. Great purchases in my opinion.

It may well have never been fired. I do see the beginning of the "turn ring" which means the action has been cycled a bit. This is normal for a S&W, and shows the gun is in proper working order.

Personally, not a fan of the .22WMR, but other than that, it's about as fine a revolver as you're likely to run across.

Thank you for sharing!

There's something about a 6" K or N frame with full-size original target grips that cannot be compared to anything else.
A while back I picked up a model 48 no-dash (1959, first/only year production) in very rough condition but VERY cheaply, and hopefully before long will be getting it back from the smith after a polish/re-blue job. Yes, it's shameful to refinish such a rare piece but had you seen it before you would say it would have been even more shameful to leave it as it was. Getting anxious to shoot it.
