S&W 469 - Opinions Requested

I was in a local gun shop today looking for options on smaller 9mm pistols with modest (10 rounds + or -) capasity. The dealer had a used S&W 469 in fair to good shape (black finish -- if that makes any difference) with one magazine for around $400.

I would appriciate opinions on this gun and its price. Gun prices where I live seem to be a little high compared to what I see given on this discussion group. Example NIB Ruger SP 101 .357 will go for around $400.

I am not trying to start a tread on what small 9mm is better. I am just interested in opinions on this specific gun.

Thanks.

Between gunsamerica.com and gunbroker.com, they have 7 listed for anywhere from $299 and $390. The one for $299 was at auction price of $250 so far, but there's no telling how high it may go. Add shipping plus FFL to these and $400 may actually be pretty close. And buying local would certainly be easier than arranging an on-line purchase where you don't have a chance to personally inspect the pistol before laying out your money. If only based on on-line prices, $400 is a bit high, though it doesn't seem like by much. Real world storefront gunshop, I just picked up a 639 for $325.

Still Have One

It really is meant for a larger hand though its a compact pistol. DA trigger is typical S&W: heavy, long and rough but the SA is short and comparatively crisp. Standard sights are sub-par. IME the pistol is durable and reliable; the best thing about it is that S&W 5900 series 15-round mags will fit them.

Check a few of the gun bibles and see what they show as a value for this pistol in various conditions. You can pick one up at a book store or maybe a library, but the library probably won't have the latest edition. If you're pressed, you can just look at one at a bookstore to see what they say. When I picked up my 639, on-line prices were higher than what the book showed for a comparable one in very good condition and the gun shop was right in line with the book. Sounds like a little research and patience could save you some $$ in this case.

At the time it came out some people felt it was the best of the semi auto S&W's. One police department I know of actually used it as an issue piece, including patrol officers. They seem to have gone out of their way to find a plastic for the grips that was as slippery as possible. Good luck...

I've got one in very good condition, with four 12 round mags, you can have for $350.

It's a nice pistol, but since I started collecting Glocks, it doesn't get out of my safe much anymore.

Send me a email, if you are interested and I'll send you a pic.
