S&W 4506 Grip question

Here's the thing...

I have got a craving for a 4506 that will not go away. Say what you want about S&W, but from the ones I have handled, the 4506 is a very well made DA/SA .45.

My problem is this. Every 4506 I have looked at has the Derlin wrap around grip with the STRAIGHT backstrap. I know alot of folks prefer this configuration, but my hand still prefers a curved or arched backstrap.

Question: Can the wrap-around Derlin grips with the straight or flat backstrap be "easily" replaced with the the curved type. If it can be replaced, can I do it or do I need a whiz-bang gunsmith to do it.

Any info you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!!!

By the way please keep the political jargon about S&W to a minimum.

Boy your right, S&W auto grips fit no one. You can do the job your self. Check out Hogue Grips, I`m sure you`ll find something you like. Full easy to follow instructions came with your new grips.....

4506 STOCKS

I ENDED UP REPLACING THE CURVED DELRIN STOCKS ON MY CUSTOM NOVAK 4506 WITH THE STRAIGHT BACKED ONES AFTER SHOOTING THE SMITH 1006 THAT WAS ISSUED WITH THE STRAIGHT BACKED VERSION. PISTOL GRIPS ARE SORTA LIKE WOMEN. WHEN YOU FIND ONE THAT FITS YOUR FISTAL YOU BETTER GRAB IT AND RUN.
THEY ARE EASILY INTERCHANGABLE WITH NO PROBLEMS ATALL. KNOCK OUT ONE PIN, LIFT ONE SIDE, JERK 'EM OFF THE PISTOL, PUT THE NEW ONES ON, BANG THE PIN BACK, AND GO SHOOTIN'.

Yes. I switched mine. I ordered the curved grip off the S&w sight.

Drift out the pin at the bottom right of the grip remove grips and replace. 30 secs. + /-. The plastic grips are held on by a hook molded into each side of the grip about half way up at the forward strap .
I loved my S&w 4506 a tough never fail-you gun and close to perfect ( stainless, Double action, 8 shots ). Traded it for a Beretta centurion in 40 if I remember. I traded that for a Colt 45 when I realized 45 did it better than 40 for me..
