S&W 442 vs. 642 ?

I was looking at the S&W site and comparing the 442 and the 642. The only difference I can see is the 442 has carbon steel where the 642 has stainless steel. Why does the 442 list for about $110 more?

No real reason that I know of. S&W has been running bargan prices on the 642 for a year now.

I picked this one up for $330 last year, plus I got a nice S&W fleece jacket to boot. Just supply and demand, I guess...

The 642 has always been troublesome with the finish. First it wasn't liked because it was 2 tone. Then it was brought back out with the clear coat that peels off. Many have been sold off to the discount houses that accounted for the drop in price. Because of the lower prices they have become the favorite of the 2. Those who buy the 442 seem to never complain of any trouble and to be honest except for the finish there is no trouble with the 642.
