S & W 442, uneven finish

Just got a new S & W 442. Noticed that the matt black finish is a bit thin on some parts of the barrel. The finish didn't seem to get into all the nooks and crannies. There's even 1 small bare spot (really small). Is this the type of finish that will begin to peel? I'm just as happy to touch it up with a black marker rather than deal with a trip back to S & W but I don't want a 2-tone 442 :D

Opinions?

For that kind of money one has a right to expect, demand, quality. Quality of function, fit, AND FINISH.

The cylinder and barrel are blued steel

on that gun, so there's nothing to peel. Since you did say it was a new gun, I'd have to side with Sam.

send it back...they will pay shipping both ways....just call them first for the weigh bill number.....it shouldn't take them long to screw on a new barrel....they replaced my 442 barrel when I had lead shaving problems and got it back in a little over a week and a half....

I have a 442 too!

your post caused me to get it out and closely examine it. Not a mark or blemish on the finish anywhere. I would follow C.R. Sam's advice and let S & W ensure that you get what you paid for. Good shooting

Back to S & W

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. I called S & W this morning and they said a shipping label is on the way. I told the person I spoke with in customer service that they'll probably laugh when they see how minor the blemishes are. He said "if you're not happy with the finish we want to fix it". So far so good. I know the gun will get scratched and scuffed over time but I'll feel better knowing the finish is in new condition.
