Hey Guys, new here. and yes I have the Smith book. I have a S&W 44 that came in a wood presentation box with "the last cartridge" raised brass engraving attached on the top. It also has a brass belt buckle (last cartridge as well) fit in the mold of the box liner. Anyone ever see one before or know anything about it? This was purchased from an old friend that can't remember anything about it except it was a politician's (someone in the senior Bush camp) gift to him in the early 80's
Thanks, buddy

It was made a while after my 29-2 (N451***).

Sorry I cant help with any info, I just wanted to chime in on the Belt Buckle, that is quite the addition to the presitation piece.

Your post made me go to E-Bay where I found a belt buckle like that (Made in 1978).

So I ordered it and am going to inlet my wooden box and glue the belt buckle to the top.

Thanks for the idea.

Before anyone chimes in and tells me I'm ruining the value, remember I'm 70, I wont live long enough to worry about future values. My guns are for me to enjoy in what years I have left.

That is a good idea. The buckle speaks volumes about what settlers had to deal with. No Walmart down the street etc. Thanks for the reply.

Grips are not original. Case is not original to the gun. Gun was made in 1980. "The Last Cartridge" was a special run (The 12 Revolvers) for the model 57 in 1990.

You are correct about the gun. The one pictured is a 19-3 357 with aftermarket grips. Sorry to hear I still don't have the original gun. The paperwork with it does say 44 magnum though. Attached is the gun that came with the box when I bought it. Still love the gun. Very clean and unfired looking. Only paid $400 for it.

I wonder if the box is from a series of revolvers S&W started but never finished due to poor sales? I think there were supposed to be 12 and they all had names like "Surrounded" and the such.
