S&W .44 Mag 629-6 Ranger 1 of 300?

I am looking at an inexpensive .44mag to carry while hunting. I found a S&W 629-6 4" Ranger 1 or 300 for under $500 & I think it's a pretty good deal. It is a used stainless gun w/ aftermarket grip in really good shape. The only thing I can find about this gun was on a post on another forum, but it wasn't very helpful.

The alternative is the Taurus. I can get the blued .44 in a 4" for $329 & the stainless for $409.

My question: Is it worth dropping the extra $$$ for a used S&W over a new Taurus? I will probably shoot this gun once or twice a year at the range for fun & then carry it at elk camp for many years to come, but not much more than that. I don't want a piece of ****, but I'm trying to be realistic about how often I will use this gun.

Thanks for the feedback.

Either are nice. I have had 0 problems from my Taurus M44. I would buy the S&W 629 for the unfluted cylinder alone. Buy Pachmayrs and enjoy.
