I am interested in a Smith & Wesson model 41 22Lr. Do you know the dates of the "A" prefix serial no's? Are these better ? Also whats the the take on the "cocked indicator" are these newer or older models ? Was the compensated 73/8 barrels done at the factory ? Any info would be appreciated.

G17, the Smith & Wesson Model 41 used the 'A' serial number prefix from 1970-1984. Beginning sometime in 1984 the prefix was changed to 'TAA'. Both the cocking indicator and the 7-3/8" barrel were discontinued in 1978. I believe all Model 41's with a 7-3/8" barrel included a factory installed muzzle brake. Hope this helps!

Steve,
Thanks... thats exactly the info I've been searching for. You have an opinion on the pre '78 models as that is what I'm looking at ?? I would be shooting not just collecting.
