S - W 41 Barrel Replacement

I sent my S-W41 in for mag catch repair. They fixed the catch,but they also put a new barrel on it.When I asked the service rep why he said the old one was "shot out" due to use of Hi Vel ammo. I was very suprised to hear this and Im still puzzled over it. The gun is not that old,and shoots a pretty good grp. The work was done under Smiths warranty,so there was no charge including shipping. Im not the original owner,but they fixed it gratis anyway Thanks. Neil
 
Does sound strange, 22lr barrel shot out. The barrel steel is or should be quite a bit harder than any lead bullets and you should have seen you groups going bad.
Makes you wonder don't it?
 
Thanks guys: I heard that S&W had quality control prblems during the time [97-98] that the gun was made. It sounds plausible that they corrected earlier mistakes.

How? DD698 got a new barrel at no charge; I would like to "be had" like that all the time.

OK, Steveno, what exactly are you trying to say? If the S&W folks saw some defect the owner didn't know about and put on a new barrel, so what? If the barrel was worn, and they put on a new barrel, so what?

The work was done at no cost under warranty even though the gun is old and DD698 wasn't even the original owner. Your remarks sound more like S&W "bashing" than any contribution to the discussion. If you think he was "had", please tell us how.

not bashing S & W at all. it was just said that the original barrel shot just fine. if S & W decided to replace it I would expect them to say why and not just being bad as the reason.
