S&W 39-2,What do I look out for?

Just picked up a very nice 39-2 in the box w/4 extra magazines for $375.00. This is one of the few handguns I've never had. Anything I should look out for or be aware of:D

Make sure that the magazines have the proper -2 followers in them. If the mag body isn't marked that a certain color follower be used, or the follower isn't marked -2, contact Smith & Wesson for that info. The different followers will have differing degrees of reliability and should be matched to the gun. (I think the -2's used a yellow, or goldenrod, colored follower.)

This was one of my fav guns. I own one now and owned numerous ones over the years. The only drawback is that the firing pin has no safety, so that means if you drop it on the muzzel at about 4 feet it may fire. Polish the feed ramp with a good metal polish and fire away, they are the nicest looking guns with the wooden grips.;)

The S&W 39 has the best firearm grip in the world this side of a Sig 225. Those two guns both feel like they were made for my hand. And both point very naturally for me.

Unfortunately, the 39 has seen a lot of safe time. Not for any fault of the gun -- it is a wonderful gun on the range. If the 39 has any downside, it is that it is not 100% reliable. The Sig is.

I have been collecting Model 39's and earlier variations for over 30 years. I have never seen colored followers. Pre 39's have flat steel followers, 39's had steel ribbed followers and 39'2's had plastic followers, all black. The 39 is a great gun with terrific looks.

MY 39 MAGS HAVE 1 PLASTIC (BLACK) FOLLOWER, THE REST ARE FLAT METAL SHAPED IN FIGURE 8 CONFIGURATION. I SHOT IT TODAY, BETWEEN RAIN DROPS, AND ALL FUNCTIONED FINE W/SILVERTIPS,MY CCW CHOICE.
