S&W 380 BG light strikes on CCI primers

I'm wondering if CCI small pistol primers are too hard for 380 pistols ?

I loaded a batch last week and shot about 20 and had two no-goes, had to pull the trigger on them twice.
i've got other primers i can try, TULA, Winchester, Remmington.
anyone know if any of those are better suited for 380's ?

thanks

I have used thousands of CCI small pistol primers in 380 auto
and never had a problem

380 is a strait walled case that seats on the case mouth,
so case length could be the problem
over crimping could also cause the problem

( taking for granted that you seated the primers all the way,
and this is most likely the cause of the fail to fire on the first strike
and fires on the second strike )

i'll double check the primers on what i have. any that are maybe not 100% to depth i'll mark and test, see if those are problematic.
other than that, the little pistol was under 1 1/2" at 7 yards with the reloads.

CCI are believed to be a little harder than most, with Winchester being a softer one. But I would look for the problem which may be either not fully seating the primer or a pistol that is just not striking the firing pin properly. I think your CCI primers are just pointing out that you have another problem. If your ammo/pistol will not function 100% with CCI, then keep looking for the fix.

It's either your primers not seated fully, or cases are far too short. I bet it's primer seat. What did you use for seating primers? Press mount or hand tool? I moved to a Lee hand tool for priming over 20 years ago and find it superior for consistency.

As the others have said, the cure is likely more about the quality of the reloaded rounds than the type of primers.
These days especially, when reloading components can be scarce and catch as catch can, your pistol should run on whatever bullets, powders and primers available.
