Good evening all. I recently purchased a S&W .38 Special, Model 64-3 revolver. I was wondering if someone could please help me out on a little more information on it? 1st) What frame is this model? J, K, etc... 2nd) What would be the production year? SN: 7092xxx.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

It's a K-frame. 64-3 was produced from 1977-1988. Can't give you a more exact answer, I'm having a bit of trouble with that serial number.

Are you sure that the second digit of the serial number is not a "D" instead of a "0"?

If it is, your 64-3 was made in 1980. Is the barrel pinned? If it is, it was definitely made before 1982. (Reference Supica & Nahas p 225 and p 399).

The Model 64 is basically a stainless Model 10.

I think Remington 51 has it right. I had a 64-2 1D74XXX (1979-1980). 7D10001-9D44500 serials are attributed to 1981. Same source & location.

Here's mine, a 64-3 with pinned barrel.
