S&W 38 Revolver

Does anyone have access to find out the year this gun was made. It is still in the original box, never fired. It is a police special, blue finish, 4" barrel which I think was purchased in the mid 50's.

Yes post your serial number and any other information you have on the Smith on the Smith & Wesson serial by date line.(the sticky first one in revolver forum) You will get your answer there.

When you do that, give the serial as mentioned, the barrel markings (including the full caliber designation), the type of sights (fixed or adjustable)and the number of chambers it has.
If there's a model number stamped on the frame normally covered by the crane when it's closed, include that.

"Police special" is meaningless, that's not a model.
