I'm trying to identify the age and value a 38 special. It's stamped model K and 15.2 with a serial number K634XXX. it's got a stock wood grip with a diamond shape around the grip screw and a 6 inch barrel. It's also has another number I can't tell what it is, the number is 442XX with the letter Z and 3 stamped in the same area. Any idea of the age of this gun and approximate value?

The serial number goes to 1965 which agrees with the 15-2 model designation used from 1962-1967.

HOWEVER, a Model 15 is the Combat Masterpiece standard with 4" barrel.
A 6" barrel was standard on the Masterpiece Target, commonly known as the K-38.

Guns do get mismarked and barrels do get replaced, so that is only a minor oddity.

Resale value depends on condition, somewhere in the hundreds of bucks.

Or perhaps sometime in the past a barrel change took place. I have to ask, mean no disrespect in regards to your expertise, are you measuring it from the end of the barrel to the face of the cylinder, or perhaps from the end of the barrel to the rear of the cylinder?
