I have a early 1970's S&W 357 magnum, also shoots the 38. It has a resest cylinder when loading, and is also pinned. I have been told this gun is becoming very collectable. Anyone know anything about this ?

The model 66 is a nice gun ....K frame ...stainless...they were made in 2 1/2', ( a few 3"), 4", and 6" ....

made from 1970 - 2004...

a no dash - was made between 1970 and 1977..../ no dash and dash 1's are both collectable ..and good shooters.

Value on most model 66's these days ...in excellent condition is $ 500 - $ 700 probably ....its a good entry level S&W revolver / still affordable / and a lot of gun for the money...

here are some of mine ... both 66-1's a 2 1/2" and a 4"

the older K frame S&W revolvers....model 19's blued or nickel ---demand a little more money ...if they're real clean...very similar guns to the model 66.

Here are some of my model 19's ( a pair of 4" in Nickel at lower right ) ---and a pair of model 66's 4" at upper right (stainless )...

S&W made revolvers / or makes revolvers ...in J, K , L and N frames for most models ....and they're all collectable...N frames demand a premium ( model 27's in .357 mag / L frame is the model 686 in .357 mag ...) and a lot of variations of all 4 frames...

but most revolver collections / or at least mine ...that comprise 20 or more revolvers...will have a few K frames...( mod 19's and 66's ) ....so hope that helps.

I would not sell your 66 no dash. They are not as common as the other model 66s that have later production numbers. It does not get any better than a good shooting model 66. I have a 66-4 4 inch and its among my best revolvers. Any K frame magnum is a joy to shoot.
Good luck with yours,
Regards,
Howard

66-1

My lil wifey stole my 66-1 with a 4" barrel. It is a Missouri State Patrol commemorative #---. This gun went to the smith a few years ago, and he cleaned it up and polished and set the timing. Did some work on the trigger and it is one sweet shooter. After reading this thread, I told the owner (spousal unit) I wanted it back, and she said something mean. Guess it is hers forever.

Picked up this NIB 66 no-dash about six months ago.

I have a 2-1/2" RB, 66 No Dash made in early 1977. I paid $600 for this one. Not a super deal, but No Dash 2-1/2" guns are not all that common around here for sale. I am starting to carry it more than any of my other revolvers.
