S&W 3" pro series M60

Had mine for years, pre-lock -10 and love it. I even made a "Lite" 357 load just for use in this gun, more than a +P but less than a full magnum and deadly accurate. Sights are standard J frame sized adjustables, mine is RR & WO..... What else can I say???

Not a PRO Series but it does have a lot of bells and whistles. A highly recommended .357. It has served me well and is a great shooter. Go find one.

I have the basic 2 1/8" Model 60 in .357 Magnum. At 7 yards I have put 5 shots in a quarter-sized group in double action. It's a godd gun -- and that's the basic model!

A model 60 pro was the second gun I ever bought. It's a nice gun, but I sort of regret not buying a 686 instead. For some reason I have trouble shooting the model 60 accurately, and I don't find it particularly pleasant to shoot even with .38 spcl. It isn't really a range gun and isn't the best option for carry IMO.

I've lusted after the aforementioned revolver for quite some time now and even had a chance to get one a month ago. My wife had surprised me with a New Vaquero but I had the choice of applying the payment towards something else if I didn't want the Vaquero. I probably spent a good 20 min looking at both of them side by side trying to make a choice. In the end I chose the Vaquero (single best decision I've ever made) for the reasons I quoted. Other than the .357 capability, there was really no reason for owning the 60 pro when I had a 637 in my pocket.

Despite all that, I still want one. It feels great in my hand and looks great as well. I probably won't carry it much, it doesn't have the makings of a serious range gun and its fairly expensive. I guess somethings you just gotta have.

Anyone who discount's the model 60 is crazy. Don't even compare a single action with double action J- frame. Apples and grapes. I love the single action Rugers but completely different animal. The Model 60 is the ultimate carry 357. The single action Rugers are a hole different gun.

A 3 inch barrel is a very good range gun.

I really wasent comparing them further than which would be more fun for me at the range. I should have added that I was going for a fun gun rather than utility.

I've got a M-36 (.38 Special) in that same eminently useful 3" barrel length. To be honest, it conceals as easily as my wife's M-637 with the shorter 1-7/8" barrel. As to range use, I find groups from the 3" are significantly better than the shorter tube, and almost as good as several 4" barreled Smith's I've tried.

The M-60 is expensive, no doubt about it, but the quality is there, backed up by S&W's excellent customer service. The M-36 pic'd below, went back to S&W for a worn cylinder stop after 28 year (that's the round, half moon projection just above the trigger on the frame that keeps the cylinder from moving back as you eject spent brass)...S&W picked up the cost of shipping both ways, and the fix was free. No hassle and the gun was back home in a week!

I've got a Pro-Series and just love it. Handles recoil well and is compact and accurate. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Coop2564:

I never fired a M60 Pro but it has to be more accurate than my 442. My 442 is double action only and no sights. It is pleasent to shoot. You will enjoy you Pro emensly for many years.

The 3" model 60 was my carry gun for a couple years, it was a great gun but I sold it as it did not fit my needs. It was not a range gun and it was a little to big for a J frame IMO. If I am going to limit myself to 5 shots, that thing better be compact and fit in my pocket which the 3" 60 did not.I traded it off for a 640 no dash in .38. Like I said it was a great gun, very accurate for a J frame and looked and handled great, it just didnt fit me needs.

My M60 Pro Series shoots great. 1st pic is with the wood grip (love 'em) and 2nd pic is with Crimson Trace Laser Grips (love 'em too).

It's like the Honda Accord of wheel guns - can do everything pretty well but doesn't perform as well at any one thing as more specialized designs. A good choice for the person who only has 1 or 2 handguns. Very nice balance of size, weight, power, conceal-ability, and accuracy.

S&W MOD 60

I liked my 60-4 so much I bought a Chief's Stainless Special to go with it:D
But shooting 357MAG in a J frame, not for me.

my model 60 is not a pro model either, but of my revolvers it is my favorite. The 3 " barrel makes it more accurate, reduces felt recoil some, and is fairly concealable and light weight. These are my opinions. If I could conceal my 4" 686 I would.
