S&W 292 ?????? Revolver

I need the help of you revolver experts.

There's an ad in a local newspaper for an S&W .44 magnum. So I call the number and the owner tells me it's a model 292 with wood grips and a "chrome" barrel. Not stainless steel but chrome (I asked). He says it has no other lettering or numbering than "S&W Model 292". It also comes with a wood presentation box.

What can you folks tell me about this revolver? What is it worth in unfired condition? What is it worth if used?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Additional info added 7/26:

Seller is second owner and has put only 1 box of shells through it. Seller thinks original owner put 2 or 3 boxes of shells through it. I think "Good Guy" is right that its a nickeled 29-2. It also comes with a soft case and ammo belt/holster.

Any more ideas on price?

Sounds like a nickel plated model 29-2. There were no "chrome" Model 29's. I believe the last of the 29-2's rolled off the line aound 1980 or there abouts. These are the pinned barrel and recessed cylinder guns, no longer made. These features were deleted on newer guns to cut production costs.

They're worth $300 (lots of use) to maybe $500 NIB, depending on features and what part of the country you are in.

There ain't no such animal. He may be talking about a model 296 which is a .44 special titanium version. I guess it is always possible for anything to be true but I can't find a model 292 in any of my books.
