S&W 29-5 DX Opinion of Value...

Hello all,

My brother-in-law just picked up a Smith and Wesson 29-5 DX with an 8 3/8" barrel. He picked it up for less than $400.00 from a friend of his and I believe at that price he stole it. It is in about as perfect condition as my inexperienced eyes can tell. This was my first time seeing the old polished blue from Smith and Wesson in person and it is absolutely beautiful. From what I've read it originally should have came with two sets of grips and more than one set of sights but his came with only a holster. I've also read that the DX models were selected from normal stock model 29's and sold at a higher price. From what I've read it had something to do with accuracy although I don't know how this could have been determined at the factory. I know he's already thinking of selling it so what would you all estimate it's worth to be? He always seems to come across deals like these. They say a sucker is born every day but we never seem to cross paths. He tells me the gentlemen who inherited this gun and many others is selling a Colt revolver as well but he has since realized the power of google and adjusted his price accordingly...

The 29/629 Classic DX's were selected from regular Classics during test firing that shot 1.5" or better groups at 50 yards.
They included five additional interchangable front sights, wood finger grooved combat grips in addition to the Hogue rubbers and a signed, dated test target verifing the accuracy.
They sold for ~$200 over the classic models.

$400 is a great price and would be awesome if it included all the extras.

Jim
