hello gentlemen, I just picked up a s&w 29-3 for $450! It has 98% original finish, original grips, super tight lock up, and a 8 3/8 inch barrel length. I think I have an addiction, I just bought a glock 20 10mm auto not even a week before this 44 mag. gonna post pics soon, my phone won't let me. One question though, is the 29-3 a good model run? I know the 29-2 was a real gem.

Yes, the 29-3 model is a solid gun ....the change from the dash 2 to the dash 3's ...and the dash 3's started in 1982 ..and ran thru 1987.. and copying from the 3rd edition S&W catalog:

29-3 model...
In 1982 ...
a. eliminate cyclinder counterbore and pinned barrel ...
b. small change in cyclinder length to 1.69"..

In 1983 ...
N serial number prefix ends and starts 3 letter serial number prefix. They also introduced the Silhouette in 10 5/8" barrel length...

In 1987
there was a 29-3E Endurance package, early markings of the dash 4's..

In 1988 the mod 29's went to the dash 4's...
-----------
The dash 6's and 7's ...are where the MIM parts start to show up in the model 29's ..starting in 1995. I would avoid the dash 6's or newer ...but nothing wrong with the dash 3's ..( but I prefer the dash 2's - like a lot of shooters /collectors)...

A 29-3...good as gold:)
